FT-991A Noise reduction settings
Comparing preset channels for noise reduction and audio shaping.
DNR set to 9, Contour menu 112 is set to 9, menu 113 is +10.
Contour frequency of 2200 hz is enabled to boost voice from noise and DNR effects.
Use your memories to store settings, not just frequencies.
Unfortunately the FT-891 does not store these settings in memory. But it does a great job once they are set.

But don’t you also need a second radio on and connected to Wires X ? I only have the FT-70. I watch a very confusing video from a dude in Canada.
This video is based on accessing our local Yaesu repeater connected to Wires X. The FT70D cannot offer you a Wires x connection. The FT5 or current Fusion mobiles can perform that function in the PDN setup.
Nice video. Are you located in Toledo?
Glad you found it helpful. I'm in southern Minnesota.
@@mmlanger55 I thought I seen a University of Toledo coffee cup.
@@thetube577 You are right ! Sorry I forgot about that. My son went there for a year but returned to Minnesota a year later. Still hanging on to that cup like a bad habit.
hi! could you please help me. convert my ft70d file to csv? i dont have an opportunity.
Good demo. Simple and not the usual hour long yapping yapping!!! Good job. 73
Great video helped me learn to use my FT-70D.
Definitely the basic details and instructions I needed. Thnx. KD9SEZ
I just picked up a ft70 today. Really cool basic radio.
Realise this is a few years old... I have just acquired a FT70, this was perfect, concise and to the point. 👍👍👍
I’m glad to know the old video still provides a service. The trusty FT70 is one of the best.
@@mmlanger55 I don't think you can beat it for value for money I plan to get a small amplifier @ 30W to use it mobile
Omg thank you for the very helpful info. So many other videos have left most of these steps out and make Wires X very frustrating.
I agree it is a great video. My main question is where did you learn these keystrokes? I've gone through the regular and advanced manual and cannot find anything resembling what you did. It definitely works as I tried it but I'd really like a clear and concise reference that gives this type of information.
I'm glad the video is still providing a service. It's been some time since I produced it and I can't honestly say how I came to know the radio. I might have read it or I might have played with it until I got it. Either way, I knew that it was time to produce the video when my mind was fresh with learning the radio. Nothing wrong with any Yaesu portable, but the FT70 is still my favorite. The operating manual found on the Yaesu.com website under FT-70DR files is described as "(including the Wires X function information)" and does describe how to use the features. But the information does not jump off the page. It takes a bit of effort to follow.
Start at page 30.
Thank you for making and sharing this.
Thanks for sharing. I have this radio and a FTM-100DR connected to a computer with the wires-x program. I can control the node with my FT2DR or my FTM-400XDR. you must either be in Minnesota or Wisconsin or one of the surrounding states. I never knew until now what the extra fields in the wires-x directory were for. KA0KAE On occasion I am on the DARC and MNWiS rooms with my node.
You've got a nice setup to enjoy fusion. Yes, I live in the soon to be frozen tundra of Minnesota. Be looking for you in those rooms. Thanks for your comments.
I'm in "frequency" mode. I mean, what is showing on my FT-70D us the frequency numbers and Not the "call signs" I already have programmed in the radio. I was trying to follow your direction and got messed up and Now I can't get back to my Already programmed frequencies. Any suggestions will be welcomed.
Restarting the radio and pushing the V/M button should always return you to the VFO or memory function. Your memories stored should all be there.
@@mmlanger55 It did not work. 145.000 frequency is still there. I don't get it?
@@joes6883 I would not be too concerned about Wires X until you are more comfortable with the main features of the radio. Wires X only controls the node or repeater connected to a node. Possibly other videos or fellow hams can help you with your issues. Wish you well.
This helps me so much. Thank you!
Is there any registration that is required to operate wires x on the ft 70 dr
Wires X commands can control any Wires X network, so long as the owner has not blocked the activity. The registration is only for the node/PDN owner. Use the Wires X command only to change a room.
@@mmlanger55 Thank you !!!
Very informative
Great video! Very concise, informative and very well done! Thanks for the help!
That ceramic plate fragged that watermelon. And you didn't bother to pick it up and show no damage as you claimed....lol Also NIJ certified?
Thanks, very helpful video K4ENW
Thank you de k2gk
Great video. Thank you!
Beautiful and concise video, just what I needed to know! Thank you
Hi, So with my FT70-DR am I limited to 5 saved rooms per repeater (C1-C5)? Is C0 not usable? It seems to store the last entered room. Also is there anyway I can see callsign ID info when i am in a room like i can when I am on my local Fusion repeater not connected to Wires-X?
Yes, you are limited to 5 saved rooms. The manual states that C0 is "the most recent connected node ID or room ID screen." See page 31in the manual for a good explanation. The FT-70D has limited screen capability, so you cannot see the callsign ID while in the Wires X mode.
@@mmlanger55 Thank you very much for replying so quickly!
My HT can do this, but why? What is there to do on the Internet with a 7 character screen and a number only keyboard. It had better be good, if I am going to monopolize the repeater while I’m doing it. I had it accidentally on for tonight’s Net and got a great deal of guff from everyone else. I would like to know that there is something worth doing. Thank yo in advance for everyone’s help.
You don’t explain how to set the room or how to get to America Link? How? Tnx. I got as far as connected...nothing else. Help.
You need to follow the video from 4:30 and following to see how to connect to a room. I use the example of MNWis #21493. Instead, you would direct enter #21080 for AmericaLink. Then push "AMS". I
I’ve had my FT1XD for the longest time, and this video just today has helped me immensely! Thank you! 73 from southeastern Minnesota, and nice to see another ham on MN-WIS!
Hi Chip. Glad you found the video helpful. Be looking for you on Fusion. Mike, N0ANE
I have a Yaesu Speaker/Mic (SSM-17A) and it seemed to not work on the Fusion room. Anybody else see this? I used the PTT on the radio and then it worked. Maybe I'll try it again tomorrow.
Got it working; not sure what I did wrong. Maybe it wasn't plugged all the way in?
I wanted to thank you; I got on America Link and made a contact in Okinawa, JP tonight and it's thanks to this video. I'd love to figure out how to program the FUSION stuff from the software I use (RT Systems; I have a Mac and the free Yaesu software doesn't work) but maybe I don't need to. Went to a local repeater and the connection and signal were strong. I added MNWIS and America Link and a few in Australia but any recommendations for good rooms to pick?
Hello Greg. Glad to read your report on the good experience with Yaesu Fusion. You might consider checking Texas Nexus #21636, CQ UK #27793, Ohio Link #40557. There are many more good Wires X rooms. Look here for room listing www.yaesu.com/jp/en/wires-x/id/active_room.php MNWis hosts a technical net every Monday night at 7 :30PM Central time where you can learn some of the latest discussion on Fusion topics. See wp.hamoperator.com for additional info, The software, Yaesu and RT Systems, does not restore the room information on the FT70 to my knowledge.
How do u drop link?
That's what I want to know.
Can I delete a saved memory room in FT70 while on wiresX mode?
Great Video! Got so much more than what i was able to glean from the manual .. Thanks, VA3IAH
I just received my ft70d I loved and and simple fot the money you pay. 73 de 2E0BJL
Lots of help here. Easy to understand and listen to. (KD8RNO)
I am new to the FT-70DR and am I correct that you have to program the WIRESX memories every time you power off and back on the FT-70DR?
Wires X memories are retained once they are programmed even though you power it off. YSF reflectors from hotspots and Openspots are not stored as they are not within the Yaesu standard.
That explains why they are not retained by the radio. Makes it a pain to use a hotspot, though. I like using the DMR radio with the Hotspot because you can program the channels with the frequency of the hotspot and the Talk Group you want to use.
@@n5pa Yaesu designed the features for the Wires X hardware and software. The hotspot is a great accessory but they do not offer complete compatibility. DMR may seem easier to you but I would take the flexibility of Wires X software (Rooms, Nodes, PDN's, etc.).
Excellent , clear description.
What happens if you press the SPARK-ROOM button on main screen? And next question, does it work with MMDVM hotspots as well?
i need to start from the beginning now how do i enter a room or find out some frquencies?
www.yaesu.com/jp/en/wires-x/id/active_node.php Search your location (city). That's as far as I got. My display flashes WIRES but never connects. So, I can't get to the point where I would select a room.
Thank you for this, am "old school" rf and learning fast on this new mode. this should help me get going on my local nodes and UK rooms now de G4LDS
seems easy... but how did you set up the node? can you give instructions for how to dial in to America link?
I think he did about halfway in. I don't think there's a way to "browse" the available rooms. You have to have the code numbers for the rooms you want, then enter that number in the "eN" screen. Once you enter the 5 digit number for the room, it should connect. But I think you have to look up the room numbers on Yaesu's website from what I gathered.
Just saw you posted this a year ago...I'm sure you figured it out already.
i know it is kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good place to watch newly released movies online?
Yes indeed... You couldn't be more OFF topic if you tried. Take your rubbish elsewhere.
@Pablo Dustin i use flixzone. You can find it on google =)
Hi there G7POG Mike, can someone explain to me please if i wished to use this radio out in the field is the access all RF driven based through a repeater or is the access through wifi, one other thing, having registered with yaesu for my 5 digit ID can this be used on any WIRES-X radio, sorry to sound dumb but im still sitting in the old RF world and all this digital technology is something Im going to have to get used to if I buy this radio, which by the way looks pretty good, thanks everyone for taking the time to look
Hi Mike. There are many videos here on RUclips that will instruct you on using the new digital technology. You do not need to register your FT70 with Yaesu. That is only necessary to operate a local node on radios that are capable of doing so. The FT70 does not. But it does offer you RF access to repeaters, nodes and hotspots providing you C4FM digital service. System Fusion is not as complicated as you might think. Enjoy the learning process.
HEY great job on your video! I have a Yaesu FT-70DR and it is good but rather have the FT-2D like you have in this video :-( Thanks again for the great video from N4TUX Boyd Travis Kingsport TN.
When I hit the x command to start the connection I lose the offset. I have the offset set to - and when I do the x command it does not do the offset and the sub menu resorts back to simplex...no offset. HELP.....
Would your setting for Wires X Freq be set to manual? Look under Disp>Wires-X>1 RPT/WIRES FREQ> (Should be set to manual)
Perfect.....all your instructions were very clear. 73s
Absolutely astounding explanation of many of the FT2's features.. I have one & learned a lot from your excellent video.. And it was very nice to hear very good clear audio without a bunch of background music.. Good job Tnx K9AAV
Thanks for the comments, Dennis. I'm not a video production guy so I'm glad it can be helpful. Maybe simple is good. It's a great radio. 73... Mike, WQ0A
Thanks! Very useful.
Great well explained..
I guess Im kinda randomly asking but do anyone know a good website to watch newly released movies online?
Very helpful and appreciated tutorial. All this stuff is new to me as I break away from HF cw QRP into something from this century.
I grew up on tubes and CW. Loved HF but now I'm rarely on it. The new digital world from Yaesu is a fantastic boost to our enjoyment of ham radio and keeps us from being relics. 73 Buck.
Hi, appreciate your videos, thank you! General questions about the computer portion of wires-x. 1) Is it better to have a desktop set aside from desk where transceivers are to reduce RF interference, or is a laptop or all in one next to transmitters ok? 2) For same RF interference, is it better to be ethernet cable connected, or use the wifi from router to said computer? Thanks, Glenn
Hi Glenn. I'm operating several Wires X nodes in digital. Most are on laptops. No RF problems whatsoever. Keep your antenna outside your immediate operating area with good coax. I also use ethernet and WiFi. Both work flawlessly, assuming you have good bandwidth for your internet service. Enjoy!
You made it look simple! Great presentation. Thanks - WØSUN
